Press Release

The chemical industry's representative body – the Chemical Industries Association –  is showing its support for the Government’s Make it in Great Britain campaign by sponsoring a competition for school children as part of the campaign's flagship exhibition.

Through this competition the chemical industry is showing how it is an important supplier to manufacturing sectors across the world.

The competition which focuses on exhibition information also invites suggestions for innovative manufacturing to meet current demands. Chemical Industries Association Chief Executive, Steve Elliott said “I think Make it in Great Britain is a fantastic showcase of the talents of our nation. I am pleased to have this opportunity to show our support and to inspire the next generation of manufacturers”.

Notes to editors:

Make it in Great Britain is a campaign that will challenge outdated perceptions and transform the image of modern manufacturing.

The Make it in Great Britain exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday 24 July to Sunday 9 September, and is being held at the Science Museum, Exhibition Rd, South Kensington, SW7 2DD.

The chemical industry is the nation’s number one manufacturing exporter. Chemical and pharmaceutical businesses:

Spend more on research and development than anyone else – over £5 billion each year which is one third of the UK total amount.

Are major investors in capital equipment, investing well over £1 billion a year in capital expenditure.

Make the products and technologies at the heart of the green economy. The energy saved by society in the lifetime of these products is twice that used in making them.

Provide employment for over half a million people.
