Adrian Whitfield, Chief Executive of Synthomer plc (a member of the FTSE 250) has been elected as the new President of the UK chemical industry trade body, the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) with effect from 1 July 2013.

Reacting to the election, CIA Chief Executive Steve Elliott said “Adrian Whitfield’s qualities and experience as leader of a Business that operates across the globe will be of huge importance to the Association as we work with Government and others to provide ongoing support for growing the chemical industry in the UK. I am looking forward to working with Adrian”.

Adrian Whitfield said “I am honoured and proud to be elected President of the Chemical Industries Association at what is a vital time for our Industry. The role that the chemical industry plays in underpinning economic growth is critical. The products and technologies from the chemical industry's factories and laboratories are a key element that the aerospace, automotive and many other sectors need to facilitate a UK manufacturing resurgence. The work of the Association and its member companies is increasingly respected. I want to build on the achievements of my predecessors to continue to develop the CIA's contribution during my Presidency."
